PDP Procedures

The Performance and Development Plan (PDP) has three primary purposes:

  1. To clarify management’s expectations for ongoing performance.
  2. To provide feedback and recognition to employees to help them improve performance and meet the responsibilities and objectives of their position.
  3. To outline plans for the employee’s ongoing professional development.

The Performance and Development Plan should be completed during the months of December through February and submitted to the employee and Human Resource Services by the last day of February each year. Management should solicit each employee’s input on his or her own performance and sit down with the employee to review the PDP. The PDP is completed and submitted on-line at

Line management should establish with each employee, as part of the PDP, a development plan indicating what the employee will do during the year to develop professionally. This plan should be the result of a mutual discussion between the supervisor and the employee. These plans should be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure completion.
