Checking In for Fall-Winter Semesters 2018-19
When can I check into my room?
- August 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. - Residents of Helaman Halls, Wyview Park, and FLSR
- August 25, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. (Scheduled check-in time required) - Residents of Heritage Halls
Heritage Halls residents need to start arriving earlier than other on-campus residents and schedule a check-in time in order to control the flow of traffic around Heritage Halls during check-in days. The check-in calendar will be available beginning at 10:00 a.m. on July 6, 2018.
Can I check in early?
Early arrival may be available to residents of Helaman Halls, Wyview Park, and FLSR for Fall-Winter Semesters 2018-19 at a rate of $15.00 per night* as early as 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25. Early arrival charges will be posted to students' accounts in early to mid September.
- Helaman Halls, Wyview Park, and FLSR - you may schedule an early arrival date by logging into your My Housing Account, go under the "Single Housing" tab, click "Housing Agreement," click "Fall/Winter," above the picture of your floor plan click "Set/Change Early Arrival," and set and save your early arrival date.
- Heritage Halls residents (Please Note: Check-in time sign-up will not be available until July 6, 2018.) - you may schedule an early arrival date by scheduling a check-in time before August 29. You may schedule a check-in time by logging into your My Housing Account and following the red link on the right side of the page that says "Please Choose Time." The early arrival fee will not apply to residents of Heritage Halls checking in between August 25 - August 29.
*This rate does not apply to Late Summer Honors participants who have registered for the food and housing option. This rate does not apply to Foundations of Leadership participants unless they check-in earlier than Monday, August 27.
Where do I check into my room?
- Helaman Halls - Check-ins take place in the lobby of your assigned hall on Wednesday, August 29, and Thursday, August 30. Check-ins on all other days are at the Helaman Halls Cannon Center.
- Wyview Park - Check-ins take place in the Wyview Park Multi-Purpose Building.
- Foreign Language Student Residence (FLSR) - Check-ins take place at the FLSR Office in Building A of the FLSR complex.
- Heritage Halls - Check-ins take place in the lobby of your assigned hall on Wednesday, August 29. Check-ins on Saturday, August 25 occur in the Heritage Halls Central Building (7, 8, 9, 10), B-100 of 14 Heritage Halls (6, 14, 15), 25 Heritage Halls (25, 26, 30), and 28 Heritage Halls (27, 28, 29). Check-ins on all other days are in the Heritage Halls Central Building.

If your preferred time slot is full, we're sorry, but we do not have the capacity to accommodate you at that time. Also, if you do not schedule a check-in time or if you show up at a time other than your scheduled check-in time, you may face longer wait times before you will be able to check in.
When can I check in if I am with Foundations of Leadership or Late Summer Honors?
Late Summer Honors participants may check into their room at 5:00 p.m. for residents of Heritage Halls, Helaman Halls, Wyview Park, and FLSR on Saturday, August 25. The cost associated with coming early is included in the program fees, provided you registered for the Housing and Food option.
Helaman Halls, Wyview Park, and FLSR residents participating in Foundations of Leadership should check in between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 27, prior to the conference. Earlier check in is available beginning Saturday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the $15 per night rate for Saturday and/or Sunday nights, and no per night rate for Monday or Tuesday nights while attending the conference.
Heritage Halls residents participating in Foundations of Leadership are not charged an early arrival fee and should check in by 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 27, prior to the conference. A scheduled check-in time is required.

After you are settled, it is very important that you remember to bring your key with you wherever you go. Apartments at Heritage Halls, Wyview Park, and FLSR are locked and require a key to enter. The new buildings at Heritage Halls will have the lobby doors open, but you'll need your ID card to access your apartment and your key to enter your bedroom. Helaman Halls buildings will be open for your access, but you'll need your key to access your room. If you live at Helaman Halls, you will need to get your Student ID card immediately, as it allows you access to you building and the Cannon Commons dining facility. If you live in Heritage Halls, please pick up your Student ID card prior to check-in (when possible), as it allows you access to your building and your apartment.Parking?

If you believe you must have a vehicle at school, you may want to consider living at Helaman Halls or Wyview Park where on-site parking is available. What's Provided
Don't worry - you don't have to bring everything. We provide the following for you:
Residents of Heritage Halls, Wyview Park, and FLSR are provided with an ironing board, refrigerator and freezer, oven/stove, microwave, kitchen table with 4-6 chairs, large couch or love seat, desk and chair, garbage can (kitchen and bathroom), shower curtain, shelf space, drawer space, personal closet, and access to a vacuum cleaner. Please wait to purchase additional cleaning supplies until you have received cleaning instructions at check-ins.
Helaman Halls residents are provided with an ironing board (in the basement, bathroom, or laundry area), desk and chair, shelf space, drawer space, mini refrigerator, limited cleaning supplies, and a personal closet.
FLSR residents are provided with community dishes, cookware, and utensils.
What to Bring

**Heritage Halls, Wyview Park, and Foreign Language Student Residence: While decorating rooms, residents may use nails and white removable mounting adhesive such as Plasti-Tak™ (not 3M Command™ hooks). An apartment can only have 6 nail holes per room (including nails already present when residents move in). Residents will be charged a repair fee for each additional hole when they move out.
***Toilet paper is not provided for residents in suites (Helaman Halls) or apartments (Heritage Halls, Wyview Park, & FLSR).
****Only one router is needed for each apartment at Heritage Halls and Wyview Park, and for each room at Helaman Halls. A router is provided for each apartment at the FLSR. Click here for more information.
*****You are welcome to bring personal entertainment equipment, but please be considerate of others. Speakers should be no larger than 1' x 1' x 2'. If you prefer loud music, please bring earphones.
Bikes:
The residence halls have outside bicycle racks. Heritage Halls also has indoor bike storage in the basement of each new building. Contact the Heritage Halls Front Desk at 801-422-4421 for more information.
If you bring a bike, you might consider one that is less expensive to avoid risk. You will need to provide your own lock to secure your bike. Bikes must be licensed; for more information, click here.
What to Leave at Home
- State and community laws prohibit fireworks and other explosive/flammable materials in the residence halls. If you are caught in possession of these items, you will be reported to the University Police.
- Small appliances and space heaters are not allowed in the bedrooms, with the exception of the personal refrigerators provided by the university in Helaman Halls. Personal refrigerators are not allowed in apartment-style housing (except for those provided by the university for medical accommodations).
- Incense, candles, or any other type of open flame are not allowed in the residence halls.
- Guns and other weapons, such as large knives, bows and arrows, swords (including decorative weapons), and paint guns are not allowed on campus. Any firearms, pellet guns, BB and paint guns, wrist rockets, slingshots, and other similar items, as well as ammunition, cannot be stored in the apartment. Violators will be referred to the University Police and Honor Code Office (http://honorcode.byu.edu/), and their rental agreement will be jeopardized.
- Skateboards, longboards, hoverboards, and in-line skates are not allowed on campus because of an increase in accidents and damage to university facilities.
- Pets and animals of any kind, including fish, are not allowed in the residence halls, except for special assistance animals for persons with disabilities. Violators will be charged $50.00 per pet each day and rental agreements will be subject to termination. Community Standards
How well do you get along with people?
Getting along with people who live differently from you can be a challenge. You might experience differences in cleanliness, bedtimes, noise levels, type of music listened to, food choices, clothing choices, movies to watch, friends, Sabbath-day worship, room decorations, etc. These differences can be experienced with your roommate, apartment members, floor members or the entire building community. However, the chance to interact with and learn from a diversity of people from all over the country and from around the world could prove to be the most rewarding and educational investment you have ever made.In an effort to reduce the potential for conflict, it is important that residents discuss possible differences and set guidelines before conflict arises. You will have weekly meetings, during which your community members (residents in your hall or on your floor) will have the opportunity to talk about issues that may become problems. The purpose of these Community Standards meetings is to allow each community member the chance to express his or her expectations of others living in the community, and set guidelines for how they will treat and interact with each other. Differences in expectations will be discussed until everyone comes to consensus on appropriate guidelines. Residents are encouraged to have their own meetings with their roommate(s) on room or apartment concerns. Community members are obligated to uphold these standards and to hold each community member responsible for the standards.
Please come each week to your Community Standards meeting prepared to share your opinions, willing to listen to the opinions of others, and ready to work together to reach consensus. We hope to see you there!
