The Office of Residence Life reserves the right to dismiss a resident assistant at any time if he or she fails to meet any of the qualifications or fails to fulfill his/her responsibilities.
- Resident assistants must be full-time matriculated students.
- Resident assistants must maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA and cannot be on academic warning or probation at any time during either the application or employment period.
- Fall-Winter resident assistants are required to enroll in a 2 credit class (Student Development 358R) and maintain a grade of "B" or higher.
- Fall-Winter resident assistants must enroll in a minimum of 12 and no more than a maximum of 16 credit hours per semester, including the 2 credit hour leadership class.
- During spring and summer terms, the leadership class is not offered for credit, but resident assistants are required to participate in comparable training.
- Spring/Summer resident assistants must enroll in a minimum of 4.5 and a maximum of 6 credit hours per term.
- Resident assistants must emulate high spiritual and moral ideals.
- Resident assistants must abide by the Honor Code, including BYU Dress & Grooming and Residential Living Standards.
- Resident assistants must have good interpersonal and public relations skills, and be customer-service oriented.
- Applicants must commit to the entire duration of the employment period.
- Employment for Fall-Winter begins in August; two weeks prior to the arrival of fall students, and ends the Saturday after winter semester finals are completed in April, at 5:00 p.m.
- Time frames for Spring/Summer are coordinated with area management.
- Resident assistants must be single students, at least 18 years old at the time of hire.
- Applicants with one-year minimum living experience in on-campus housing are preferred.
- Attendance at R.A. Training, which begins two weeks before the first day of class, is mandatory. There are no exceptions.
- Resident assistants for the Foreign Language Student Residence (FLSR) must be admitted into the language program for the year of application. Contact the FLSR Hall Advisor at 801-378-2381 for more information.
- Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
- Due to the nature of the resident assistant position, only U.S. citizens or others who qualify for unrestricted employment in the U.S., such as permanent residents and those having an EAD card, will be considered for employment as a Resident Assistant.
- Evening classes conflict with resident assistant assignments. Therefore, classes ending after 7:00 p.m. are not permitted.
- Outside commitments which interfere with R.A. responsibilities are not permitted. This includes any other employment on or off campus, participation in university performing groups, university athletic teams, and ROTC.
- Resident assistants must remain in their housing area at the end of each semester until all assigned residents have been properly checked out and other R.A. responsibilities are completed.
- For the 2014-15 academic year, R.A. wages will begin at approximately $9.50 per hour for a 20-hour week. The R.A.'s room and meal plan are deducted from the hourly wage.
- The Office of Residence Life reserves the right to assign and/or change an R.A.'s room or hall assignment at any time.
Room & Board Housing: Helaman Halls
- Resident assistants receive a room on their assigned floor and a meal plan. R.A.s are not assigned a roommate.
Apartment-Style Housing: Heritage Halls, FLSR, and Wyview Park
- Resident assistants receive a room and a meal plan.
- Heritage Halls R.A.s receive their own bedroom within an apartment in their assigned hall. R.A.s are not assigned a roommate.
- Foreign Language Student Residence (FLSR) R.A.s share a bedroom within a six-person apartment assigned to their target language.
- Wyview R.A.s receive their own bedroom in a two- or three-bedroom apartment.
